Ancient Manuscript on Amir Timur offers deeper insight into the historical legacy of Central Asia

DUSHANBE, February 26. /Dunyo IA/. The museum of the Tajik National University houses a unique manuscript in the Uzbek (Turkic) language dedicated to the life of Amir Temur, titled “Manoqibi Amir Temur Sohibqiron” (“The Virtues of Amir Temur Sahibkiran”), reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

According to university professor Badriddin Maqsudov, the book “Manoqibi Amir Temur Sohibqiron” may be the oldest Turkic manuscript about Temur. It is believed to have been written earlier than well-known historical and literary works such as “Temur Tuzuklari” (The Institutes of Temur), Nizamuddin Shami's “Zafarnama” and the works of Mirkhond and Khondamir.

This historical book describes the life of Amir Temur from his birth to his military campaigns, and includes information related to folk legends. The presence of characters in the text who were not contemporaries of Amir Temur indicates the inclusion of folklore elements in the narrative.

At the end of the manuscript, the month of Rajab 1027 AH is specified, which corresponds to June-July 1618 AD. Given that this document may be a copy, researchers suggest that the original could have been created much earlier.

Detailed study of this manuscript will undoubtedly make a significant contribution to our understanding of the Amir Temur era and the history of Central Asia.
