Almaty Metro suspended operations due to large-scale power outage

TIBA, August 14. /Dunyo IA/. Operations of the Almaty Metro were temporarily suspended today following a complete outage of external power supply, reports Dunyo IA correspondent, citing with the “Kazinform” International News Agency.
Train services were suspended at 3:11 p.m. All passengers were evacuated from the trains and stations, which were closed for entry and exit until power supply was restored and voltage was supplied to the contact rail. There were no casualties or injuries.
According to Kazakhstan’s national electricity grid operator, KEGOC, a technical disruption occurred today in the Unified Power System of Kazakhstan, resulting in the disconnection of power transmission lines. Power engineers are working to restore the networks.
Amid the blackout, 8-point traffic congestion formed in Almaty, while additional traffic restrictions are in place in the area of the Central Stadium.
Almaty akimat reported that despite interruptions in power supply, the situation remains under control.
“Medical organizations continue to operate. They are equipped with backup power supply sources - diesel generators and uninterruptible power supply systems. Almaty Metro operations have been temporarily suspended. Metro stations are temporarily closed for entry and exit until power supply is restored and voltage is supplied to the contact rail”, Almaty akimat said.
