BRUSSELS, August 18. /Dunyo IA/. The European Geopolitical Forum published an article titled "UNESCO General Conference to be held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan", reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

According to the article, the 43rd UNESCO General Conference is scheduled to take place in Samarkand in 2025. This will be the first time Uzbekistan hosts the biennial event. Historically, the conference has been held primarily at UNESCO’s headquarters in Paris since 1986, with eight exceptions in cities such as Mexico City, Beirut, Florence, Montevideo, New Delhi, Nairobi, Belgrade, and Sofia.

The piece highlights that Uzbekistan is actively preparing for the event, which will include not only Samarkand but also Tashkent, Bukhara, Khiva, and Shahrisabz.

On March 15, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree on measures to prepare for the international forum.

The resolution underscores that between 2017 and 2023, 14 unique elements of Uzbekistan’s cultural heritage were added to UNESCO’s lists, and Bukhara was included in the Network of Creative Cities. The 1050th anniversary of the renowned scholar Abu Rayhon Beruniy was also celebrated at UNESCO headquarters in September 2023.

An organizing committee, chaired by Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, has been established to manage the preparations and conference will feature various cultural events, excursions, and high-level receptions in Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva, and Shahrisabz.

"The book-album "Samarkand — at the crossroads of world civilizations" will be published in Uzbek, Russian, English and French, as well as a series of postage stamps and envelopes, calendars and visual propaganda, commemorative coins, silver and gold coins", – The European Geopolitical Forum says.
