“Alayam” Newspaper: Only a few days remain before the start of the World Chess Olympiad in Uzbekistan

MANAMA, August 1. /Dunyo IA/. Popular Bahraini newspaper “Alayam” has published an article dedicated to the holding of the World Chess Olympiad in Uzbekistan, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
Publication notes that the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan duly marked International Chess Day, emphasizing the role of this intellectual game in promoting the values of fairness, inclusiveness, and mutual respect, and announced the 46th Chess Olympiad of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), which will be held in Samarkand on September from 15th to 27th, 2026.
Newspaper notes that this largest global event in the field of chess is being held in Central Asia for the first time in history. At the International Exhibition Center “Ipak Yo‘li”, Samarkand will host around 200 national teams, demonstrating Uzbekistan’s growing reputation as one of the world’s centers for hosting major international sporting events.
According to the author, Uzbekistan’s achievements in chess are the result of long-term investments in the development of young talents and the promotion of this sport under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, contributing to the formation of a new generation of chess players capable of competing at the highest international level.
Publication also notes that the Chess Olympiad holds a special place among the important international sporting events that will take place in Uzbekistan in 2026. In particular, the World Aquatics World Cup will be held in Tashkent on October from 8th to 10th under the auspices of the international federation, the Asian Table Tennis Championships will take place on October from 12th to 25th, World Sambo Championships on November from 6th to 8th and World Junior Judo Championships on November from 19th to 21st.
