Uzbekistan targets $1 billion in fintech investment by 2030

LONDON, August 26. /Dunyo IA/. Uzbekistan has unveiled a four-year fintech development strategy aimed at transforming the country into Central Asia’s leading fintech hub, Dunyo IA correspondent reports, citing the British business portal “FStech”.
Chairman of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan Timur Ishmetov presented the strategy at the Silk Road Finance and Technology Forum in Tashkent.
The strategy envisages attracting $1 billion in foreign investment to the fintech sector by 2030. The Central Bank also plans to reform the regulatory framework and launch new initiatives in the field of digital finance.
In 2026–2027, the Central Bank plans to introduce an enhanced regulatory sandbox for testing new financial instruments, as well as an innovation hub, which is expected to begin accepting residents in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Particular attention is being paid to developing human capital. In cooperation with the National University of Singapore and the Global Finance and Technology Network, the country plans to train 5,000 young people in modern financial sector practices by 2030.
Timur Ishmetov also noted that the Central Bank is conducting trials of a central bank digital currency and expects to present the results in the near future.
