TASHKENT, September 25. /Dunyo IA/. On September 28–29^th, 2026, Tashkent and Samarkand will host the 5^th Samarkand Forum on Human Rights - an authoritative international platform for expert dialogue on pressing issues regarding the protection and promotion of human rights, sustainable development and international cooperation, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Theme of the 5^th Samarkand Forum is “60 Years of the International Covenants on Human Rights and 40 Years of the Declaration on the Right to Development: A Global Partnership for Dignity, Equality and Sustainable Development”.

Active preparations for the forum are currently underway in Uzbekistan. The event is expected to bring together representatives of international organizations, state bodies, national human rights institutions, leading experts, scholars and civil society representatives from various countries around the world.

Over the past 10 years, at the initiative of our President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, holding Samarkand forums dedicated to the most pressing issues in the field of human rights in New Uzbekistan has become a good tradition.

 Therefore, it is not without reason that in the addresses of our Head of State, first of all, it was recognized that the Asian Forum on Human Rights, held for the first time in our country in 2018, brought a unique “Samarkand spirit” to world practice.

The 5^th Samarkand Forum is timed to coincide with significant anniversary dates in the history of the international system for the protection of human rights.

The year 2026 marks the 60^th anniversary of the adoption of two foundational documents of the United Nations - International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, which were adopted by the UN General Assembly on December 16^th, 1966.

In addition, this year marks the 40^th anniversary of the adoption of the UN Declaration on the Right to Development, which enshrined the right of individuals and peoples to participate in, contribute to and benefit from economic, social, cultural and political development.

5^th Samarkand Forum is being organized as part of the implementation of the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated February 16^th, 2026, “On reform programs in priority areas and the State Program for the implementation of the “Uzbekistan – 2030” Strategy in the “Year of Mahalla and Social Development”.

Main idea of the Forum is to strengthen global cooperation for the promotion of human dignity, equality and sustainable development.

Holding of the Samarkand Forum in a year when important anniversary dates are celebrated demonstrates Uzbekistan’s consistent commitment to international standards in the field of human rights and its desire to make a practical contribution to the development of global dialogue on human rights confirms.
