• 124AUBURN, October 5. /Dunyo IA/. Diplomats from the General Consulate of Uzbekistan in Seattle met with the leadership of the American college “Green River College”, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
During the meeting, opportunities for opening a campus of the college in Uzbekistan, as well as the implementation of joint educational programs, were discussed.
Meeting was attended by George Frasier, Interim President of Green River College and Wendy Stewart, Vice President for International Programs and Extended Learning.
American side was presented with information about the ongoing reforms in the field of education in Uzbekistan, measures for professional orientation of youth, expansion of practical training, as well as the development of cooperation with foreign educational institutions. Leadership of the college noted the ongoing reforms and expressed readiness to cooperate with Uzbek partners.
During the negotiations, special attention was paid to the “1+1+2” educational model. Proposed program envisages that the student will study at the planned college campus in Uzbekistan during the first year, at the “Green River College” campus in the USA during the second year and subsequently continue their studies at an American university during the third and fourth years of undergraduate studies.
As the college representatives explained, subject to meeting the requirements for admission, age, English language proficiency and academic performance, this approach will potentially allow 9th-grade graduates to combine high school education with college studies and complete high school education while earning a bachelor's degree in a total of four years.
In addition, issues concerning the implementation of joint programs in areas such as information technology, software development, cybersecurity, accounting and aviation, as well as the organization of student and faculty exchanges, were considered.
Leadership of the college expressed readiness for direct interaction with interested educational institutions of Uzbekistan.
It is worth noting that “Green River College” began its operations in 1945 as an evening education program for adults, and in September 1964, it was officially opened as a community college offering technical and vocational programs.
Today, “Green River College” offers a wide range of educational programs, including transfer preparation programs to other higher education institutions, professional and technical education, applied bachelor's degree programs, preparatory courses, as well as community and continuing education programs. The total enrollment of the college is approximately 15 thousand students.
