CARACAS, July 6. /Dunyo IA/. The death toll from the two powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24 has risen to 3,342, according to updated figures, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
According to the Ministry of Communication and Information, 16,470 people have been injured, while 17,345 residents have been left homeless. Thousands of people also remain missing, and authorities have warned that the death toll is likely to rise further.
Search-and-rescue teams continue operations at collapsed buildings, while humanitarian organizations are providing temporary shelter, medical assistance, food, and other essential supplies to those affected by the disaster.
The June 24 earthquakes were the deadliest to hit Venezuela in more than a century and the country’s worst natural disaster since the devastating floods and mudslides of 1999.
Officials said rescue operations remain complicated by damaged transportation and utility infrastructure, as well as continuing aftershocks. Efforts are focused on locating survivors, restoring critical infrastructure, and assisting thousands of people who have been displaced.
The government said it would continue emergency response and reconstruction efforts in the regions hardest hit by the earthquakes.
