ISLAMABAD, June 9. /Dunyo IA/. The leading Pakistani newspaper “The Nation” published an article titled “Russian, Uzbek presidents launch construction of Uzbekistan's 1st nuclear power plant”, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
The publication states that President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of Russia Vladimir Putin launched the construction of the first power unit of the integrated nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan.
It is emphasized that the ceremony took place as part of the Uzbek leader's participation in the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum, held in Saint Petersburg.
President of Uzbekistan said growing electricity demand made the project strategically important for the country's future. “Our economy is growing and energy supply must be ensured, Shavkat Mirziyoyev said, adding that Uzbekistan ranks among the world's leading uranium producers and sees nuclear energy as part of its long-term development plans. - This is a strategic project in the energy sector between Russia and Uzbekistan. We do not intend to stop with these projects in this area”.
As noted by the Pakistani newspaper, the implementation of this project will mark a new milestone in Uzbekistan's technological, industrial, and scientific development, while establishing a foundation for the emergence and advancement of a new domestic industry - nuclear energy. The project integrates cutting-edge advancements in both small modular reactor generation and large-scale power engineering.
The article emphasizes that the project's implementation and outcomes will further strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership and alliance between Uzbekistan and Russia. This initiative is positioned as a significant step in deepening bilateral relations.
