TOKYO, October 27. /Dunyo IA/.  “GLOBE+”, an online publication affiliated with “The Asahi Shimbun”, one of Japan’s largest newspapers, has published an article entitled “It's not just Plov": The rich cuisine of Uzbekistan as experienced during my travels”, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Japanese journalist’s visit to Uzbekistan was organised with the assistance of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Tokyo. The article presents Uzbekistan’s culinary culture as an integral part of the country’s national heritage, family values and rich cultural legacy. It highlights the diversity of regional culinary traditions, from the distinctive ways of preparing plov in Tashkent and the decorative patterns of Samarkand’s traditional bread to the characteristic features of traditional beshbarmak in Karakalpakstan, reflecting the unique identity of the Aral Sea region.

Drawing parallels between Uzbek culinary traditions and Japan’s rice-based food culture, the author underscores Uzbekistan’s potential for developing gastronomic tourism among Japanese visitors. Publications of this kind in media outlets with a monthly audience of more than 30.6 million users help raise the profile of Uzbekistan as a travel destination.

Japan remains one of Uzbekistan’s key partners in tourism. From January to September 2026, more than 36,000 Japanese tourists visited Uzbekistan, a 53.3 percent increase compared with the same period last year.
