SEATTLE, October 31. /Dunyo IA/. Taylor Swanson, a two-time Paralympic medallist from the United States, has expressed her hope to compete at the World Para Athletics Championships, which will be held in Uzbekistan in 2027, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
In a video message sent through the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Seattle, the athlete spoke about her desire to compete in Uzbekistan and highlighted the importance of international competitions for the development of para sports.
“The opportunity to compete in Uzbekistan is very important to me. It means a great deal both to my athletic career and to the confidence I have gained through competition, as well as to raising awareness about the country,” the athlete noted.
According to her, international para-sport competitions help people with disabilities and various health conditions believe in themselves, set new goals and unlock their potential.
The American athlete also expressed hope for the support of Uzbek spectators. She emphasized her desire to tell the international community about the opportunities available to para-athletes in Uzbekistan and the government support they receive.
The championship will be particularly significant as it is scheduled to take place in 2027, ahead of the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games. In her view, the tournament will provide a platform for the world's leading para-athletes to demonstrate their abilities, while allowing representatives of Uzbekistan to showcase the country's sporting potential on the international stage.
Taylor Swanson grew up in Seattle and currently trains in Spokane, Washington. She began competing in para-sprinting in 2022 and was diagnosed with cerebral palsy in 2023, at the age of 30. She now competes in the T37 classification and is also actively promoting opportunities for athletes with disabilities.
At the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris, she won silver in the 100 metres and bronze in the 4×100-metre universal relay. She has also won medals at the Parapan American Games and World Championships. Since 2023, she has earned a total of eight international medals.
