STOCKHOLM, September 24. /Dunyo IA/. A solemn event dedicated to the 35^th Anniversary of the Independence of Uzbekistan was held at the “Folkets Hus Hallunda” cultural center in Stockholm, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Celebration was organized by the Embassy of Uzbekistan in cooperation with the “Vatandoshlar” Public Fund and brought together compatriots residing in Scandinavian countries.

Congratulatory speeches at the event were delivered by the Ambassador of Uzbekistan Rakhmatulla Nurimbetov, Deputy Chairman of the Fund Boliddin Sanaev, Ambassador of Sweden to Uzbekistan Martin Åberg and Vice Mayor of Stockholm Anders Österberg.

Swedish representatives noted the development of relations between Uzbekistan and Sweden in recent years and emphasized the importance of further strengthening friendship between the peoples, cultural-humanitarian ties and contacts between the citizens of the two nations.

One of the central moments of the celebration was the award ceremony honouring active compatriots who contribute to the promotion of Uzbek culture and national values abroad, as well as to strengthening the cohesion of the Uzbek diaspora.

Participants were also briefed on the activities of the “Youth Forum”, established at the initiative of Uzbek students in Sweden. The young people elaborated on the goals and objectives of the initiative, current projects and future plans.

A special, welcoming atmosphere was created by a lavishly spread national “dastarhan” - a traditional Uzbek feast abundant with national delicacies and pastries alongside a vibrant concert program showcasing the rich culture, art and heritage of the Uzbek people.
