Uzbekistan and Pakistan explore prospects for trade and economic cooperation and international transport connectivity

On 14-15 January, Deputy Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan, Shokhrukh Gulamov visited Pakistan as part of an Uzbek delegation on a working visit, focused on exploring opportunities to expand cooperation in the industrial, investment and logistics sectors, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
According to the Ministry of Investments, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan (MIIT), on the first day, a closed-format meeting was held with Haroon Akhtar Khan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Pakistan on Industries. An expanded meeting was also convened at the Ministry of Industries and Production of Pakistan, with the participation of representatives from around ten relevant government agencies.
The delegation also held meetings with heads of leather industry associations, as well as with senior executives of leading companies operating in the pharmaceutical and industrial sectors.
As part of the visit, a meeting took place with Shoaib Ahmad Khan, Chief Executive Officer of Pakistan’s National Logistics Corporation (NLC). The discussions focused on prospects for developing international transportation and expanding cooperation along the Pakistan – China -Kyrgyzstan - Uzbekistan corridor via the Khunjerab Pass.
On the second day, the delegation visited the Port of Karachi, where opportunities were discussed to utilize port infrastructure to expand transit routes and facilitate access of Uzbek products to international markets.
Following the visit, the parties agreed to continue consultations and proceed with substantive elaboration of joint initiatives.
