Uzbekistan and UNESCO agree on preparatory measures for International Expert Forum on Artificial Intelligence Ethics

PARIS, March 12. /Dunyo IA/. On March 10, negotiations were held in an online format between representatives of Uzbekistan and the Social and Human Sciences Sector of the UNESCO Secretariat, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
According to the Permanent Delegation of Uzbekistan to UNESCO, the meeting was dedicated to discussing the organization of the International Expert Forum on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence, to be held in Tashkent in September 2026.
The initiative to host this international forum in Uzbekistan was first announced by President of Uzbekistan at the opening ceremony of the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand in November 2025.
On the Uzbek side, the event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Digital Technologies and Permanent Delegation to UNESCO. Representing UNESCO in the consultations were Dafna Feinholz, Chief of Bioethics and Ethics of Science and Technology at UNESCO; Mariagrazia Squicciarini, Chief of Executive Office, Social and Human Sciences Sector at UNESCO; Tee Wee Ang, Programme Specialist, Bioethics and Ethics of Science and Techniology, UNESCO and other specialists from the Secretariat.
During the meeting, parties discussed the forum's concept presented by the Uzbek side, including its thematic focus, content, the circle of potential participants, as well as approaches for further organizational and substantive development of the initiative.
Particular attention was paid to the thematic positioning of the event, its potential format, practical orientation and expert nature.
The parties also reviewed approaches to organizing specialized discussions and the participation of guest experts, taking into account UNESCO's international agenda in the field of artificial intelligence ethics.
In this context, both sides emphasized the importance of promoting international dialogue on the ethical aspects of AI development and application, as well as the significance of the UNESCO Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence as a global benchmark in this field.
The Uzbek side reaffirmed its interest in building a substantive and practice-oriented partnership with UNESCO in this area.
Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their mutual interest in continuing a constructive dialogue, expanding practical interaction and further strengthening cooperation between Uzbekistan and UNESCO in the field of artificial intelligence development.
