TASHKENT, August 16. /Dunyo IA/.  Starting from January 1^st, 2027, Uzbekistan will become a full member of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

According to China’s “Xinhua” Information Agency, Uzbekistan will become the only Central Asian country to attain this status. Full membership will enable the country not only to apply international standards, but also to directly participate in their development and improvement through the organization’s technical committees.

Uzbekistan’s cooperation with the IEC began in 2015 under a partnership programme and in 2023 the country attained associate member status.

The parties agreed to strengthen cooperation in the training of national experts, expand their participation in the IEC’s technical committees, and develop conformity assessment systems. The potential for expanding cooperation in the fields of information technologies, artificial intelligence, electrical engineering, energy efficiency and “green” energy was also noted.

Founded in 1906, the IEC is a non-profit organization for the development of standards in the fields of electrical engineering and electronics, bringing together around 170 participating countries, 64 of which have full-member status.
