New York hosts discussion on Global Governance of Artificial Intelligence

On the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, a “roundtable” discussion was held on the topic “Bridging the Gap Between Policy and Implementation: Who is Steering Global AI Governance?”, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
Event was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan in cooperation with “Tech Diplomacy Global Institute” and “Mia AI”, with the participation of representatives from government structures, international organizations, technology companies, as well as scientific and educational institutions.
During the discussion, Uzbek side presented detailed information on national priorities in the field of artificial intelligence and digital transformation, including the development of human and institutional capacity, as well as the application of AI technologies across key sectors of the economy and the social sphere.
Participants exchanged views on the practical implementation of international principles for AI governance, enhancing AI literacy among public servants, strengthening inter-agency coordination, developing digital infrastructure, protecting data and ensuring cybersecurity. Particular attention was devoted to the necessity of fostering sustainable interaction between government agencies, technology sector, scientific community and international partners.
Within the framework of the event, readiness was also reaffirmed to host the “Tech Diplomacy Asia Symposium” in Tashkent on October 14th, marking the first anniversary of the Samarkand Declaration on “Tech Diplomacy”. Forum will serve as a high-level platform to review the outcomes of the first year of the Declaration's implementation, discuss the further institutionalization of technological diplomacy and strengthen practical cooperation among Asian nations in the field of emerging technologies.
