TASHKENT, September 12. /Dunyo IA/. A ceremony marking the opening of the Diplomacy and Art Gallery was held at the premises of the Diplomatic Service Center under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

The gallery is dedicated to the 35th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s independence. The exhibition was organized jointly with the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan and the Tashkent House of Photography.

The event was attended by staff members of embassies and diplomatic missions accredited in Uzbekistan.

The exhibition introduces members of the diplomatic corps to Uzbekistan’s rich cultural heritage, national values and contemporary visual art. The gallery features works by renowned and emerging Uzbek artists reflecting the diversity of the country’s regions, landscapes and cultural life.

In an interview with a Dunyo IA correspondent, UN Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan Sabine Machl noted that the exhibition offers an opportunity to explore the diversity of the country through art.

“It is very pleasant to see works by so many artists who have captured different parts of Uzbekistan – Samarkand, the Aral Sea, Karakalpakstan and other regions. It is particularly important that the exhibition is being held with the participation of the diplomatic corps. Representatives of different countries have an opportunity to see Uzbekistan from a new perspective,” she said.

According to Sabine Machl, culture plays an important role in promoting international understanding and diplomacy.

“Culture does not need words. It can be conveyed through music or painting, and it does not require a common language. It is something that we can all understand as human beings,” the UN Resident Coordinator emphasized.

Chairman of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan Akmal Nur also highlighted the importance of such joint projects.

According to him, the exhibition features works by both established and emerging artists, many of whom have already participated in solo and group exhibitions abroad.

“The Academy of Arts has long maintained close cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Many of our international projects are implemented with its support. Today’s joint gallery is an important step toward further developing this cooperation,” Akmal Nur said.

He added that the exhibition format is expected to be expanded in the future to introduce Uzbek art not only to members of the diplomatic corps, but also to foreign professionals, companies and organizations operating in Tashkent.

The organizers expressed confidence that the Diplomacy and Art Gallery will become another platform for cultural exchange, strengthening international ties and promoting contemporary Uzbek art.
