LONDON, September 16. /Dunyo IA/. President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has instructed to increase the share of domestic production and the participation of national companies in the construction of the country’s first nuclear power plant, reports Dunyo IA correspondent, citing with the British portal “World Nuclear News”.

It is noted that the share of local production in the project currently stands at around 21%. It is planned to increase this figure to at least 30%, while the share of construction and installation work carried out by Uzbek enterprises is to reach 65%.

To advance localization, a plan has been approved to establish a 200-hectare industrial zone offering tax and customs benefits. It is planned to accommodate at least 100 joint ventures and localize production in 15 areas through technology transfer.

Construction of a 200-hectare town for nuclear specialists, designed to accommodate approximately 33,000 people, is also planned. It will include around 10,000 apartments, schools, preschools, healthcare, sports and cultural facilities.

Nuclear Power Plant project is being implemented in the Jizzakh Region. Following a change in the plant’s configuration in 2025, it will comprise two power units with a capacity of around 1 GW each, equipped with VVER-1000 reactors, and two small-capacity units. The plant’s total electrical capacity will exceed 2.1 GW, compared with the initially planned 330 MW.

Head of State also instructed to ensure the quality and safety of construction, expand the participation of domestic enterprises, and train the necessary personnel for the nuclear energy sector.
