SAMARKAND, September 29. /Dunyo IA/.  An anniversary session dedicated to the 30^th anniversary of the National Centre of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights was held as part of the Fifth Samarkand Forum on Human Rights, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Session was held under the theme “From International Obligations to Effective Implementation: The Role of National Implementation Mechanisms in the Field of Human Rights”.

Discussion brought together representatives of Uzbekistan’s judicial and legislative bodies, national human rights institutions of Türkiye, Thailand, Qatar, Morocco, Kazakhstan and Russia, as well as international organizations and the expert community. A number of participants joined the session online.

Discussions focused primarily on inter-agency coordination, the activities of national mechanisms for the implementation, reporting and follow-up of international obligations, as well as the application of international best practices.

It was noted that over the past 30 years, the National Centre of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights has played an important role in promoting international human rights standards, fulfilling the country’s international obligations, engaging with UN mechanisms and advancing education and research in this field.

As part of the Forum, an award ceremony was also held for the winners of the Capstone Project Uzbekistan human rights education programme. The awards were presented by Academician Akmal Saidov, Director of the National Centre of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights; Martin Van Buuren, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of the Netherlands in Uzbekistan and Azamat Shambilov, President of the Center for International Development and Justice.
