SAMARKAND, September 30. /Dunyo IA/. Concluding plenary session of the Fifth Samarkand Forum on Human Rights, dedicated to the 60^th anniversary of the International Human Rights Covenants and the 40^th anniversary of the Declaration on the Right to Development, was held, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Session presented the general conclusions and proposals developed following seven thematic sessions of the Forum held in Tashkent. The discussions covered civil and political rights, economic, social and cultural rights, the protection of the rights of children, women and persons with disabilities, the right to a healthy environment and climate justice, artificial intelligence and digital technologies, as well as the prevention of statelessness.

Participants considered the draft outcome document, “Samarkand Vision – 2040: Global Partnership for Human Dignity, Equality and Sustainable Development”, presented by Akmal Saidov, Director of the National Centre of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights.

Document sets out long-term priorities for international cooperation in the field of human rights protection, promotion of the right to development, strengthening national institutions and integrating a human rights-based approach into sustainable development efforts.

Forum resulted in practical recommendations on fulfilling international obligations, strengthening international and national cooperation, sharing best practices and developing national human rights protection mechanisms.

Particular attention was paid to new challenges associated with the development of artificial intelligence and digital technologies, environmental and climate change, as well as the need to further strengthen the universal human rights protection system.
