TASHKENT, July 2. /“Dunyo” IA/. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Furkat Sidikov held talks via videoconference with the Deputy Secretary-General of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on economic affairs Ahmed Ssenyomo, informs “Dunyo” correspondent.
According to Uzbek MFA, parties discussed the current state and prospects of multidimensional cooperation with OIC which also includes trade, economic, investment and tourism areas.
As noted, a large scale reforms are being implemented in the area of economy under the leadership of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev. They are directed to sustain country’s economic growth and increased competitiveness. In this regard, Uzbekistan puts an emphasis to cooperation with OIC and other international organizations.
It was noted that building up cooperation in the field of economy and trade is one of the priority areas of relations with the OIC. In this regard, Uzbekistan intends to establish close cooperation with the OIC Secretariat, the Islamic Development Bank, the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation of OIC (COMCEC), The Islamic Centre for Development of Trade (ICDT) and other bodies of the organization. This will make it possible to successfully implement projects in our country.
The parties also discussed the revival of trade and economic cooperation between the OIC participants in in the times of COVID-19 pandemic; emphasized the importance of joint efforts to mitigate the negative effects of coronavirus.
The OIC Deputy Secretary General highly appreciated the measures taken by the Government of Uzbekistan to maintain economic activity, support entrepreneurship and combat the spread of coronavirus infection in the country.
A number of other mutually beneficial issues were discussed during the talks.
