First Games of the CIS countries postponed to 2021

KAZAN, September 9. / IA “Dunyo”. The Minister of Sports of Tatarstan (Russia) Vladimir Leonov said that the Organizing Committee of the First Games of the CIS, which was planned to be held in September in Kazan, decided to postpone the Games to 2021, reports IA “Dunyo” correspondent.

The CIS Executive Committee Press Service notes that the Games are not changed, but postponed.

“We will hold the event either before the Olympic Games, or immediately after. Most likely, it will take place in summer – either at the end of August or at the beginning of July. We are now discussing the issue with the federations, the Russian Ministry of Sports”, noted Minister Vladimir Leonov.

The participants of the first in the history of the Games of the CIS countries were supposed to be athletes aged 14 to 23, who were to compete for medals in 21 types of programs. For the competitions in Kazan, it was planned to use 15 sports facilities. The opening and closing ceremonies were planned to be held at the Basket-Hall sports complex.

It was expected that more than 2.5 thousand athletes from 11 countries would take part in the first Games of the CIS countries.
