Helena Fraser: We are witnessing dynamic cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UN

TASHKENT, August 25 / IA “Dunyo”/. An important date for every Uzbek is approaching - the day of celebration of the state independence of Uzbekistan. Despite the coronavirus pandemic, this holiday does not lose its significance and grandeur. There is no doubt that it will be held in an atmosphere of unity, with festive sincere congratulations to friends and partners of the republic.

On the eve of the celebration of the 29th anniversary of the state independence of Uzbekistan, correspondents of information agency “Dunyo” talk with international partners about the achievements of our country in the development of multifaceted cooperation.

Here is what Helena Fraser, UN Resident Coordinator for the Republic of Uzbekistan, spoke about in her interview:

- 2020 is the 75th year of the UN. And also, it's 29 years of Uzbekistan's Independence. This year we’ve really seen some fantastic deepening of cooperation between the government of Uzbekistan and the UN. This was evident in the sustainable development goal decade of action ceremony in March. It was evident when the Oliy Majlis established bicameral parliamentary commission on SDGs. It was evident when the Government of Uzbekistan adopted a groundbreaking road map on strengthening and deepening cooperation with the UN system and its specialized institutions. And throughout the year we’ll be celebrating the UN 25 campaign by riching out young people, vulnerable groups, citizens around the country, members of parliament and high-level officials to have a dialog around what multilateralism means in this 75th anniversary.

And it’s really been very impressive to me how engaged everyone that we spoke to has been and how important all the Uzbek leaders, as well as ordinary citizens and young people, feel the UN is and stands for in terms of global solidarity, a global partnership to achieve solutions to the challenges that we faced around the world including the current challenge of COVID-19 where more than ever we can see multilateralism matters. So I would like, to wish everyone a happy independence day.

“Fursatdan foydalanib barchangizni O’zbekiston Respublikasi mustaqillik kuni bilan muborakbod etaman!”
