TASHKENT, September 15. / IA “Dunyo”/. The EU-funded Programme on Border Management in Central Asia (BOMCA) held the online Final Conference of the 9th Phase on 15 September 2020, reports IA “Dunyo” correspondent.
It summarised the achievements from over the five years of its implementation.
The event gathered over 100 representatives of the BOMCA implementing Consortium, national border management agencies in Central Asia, EU Delegations, international organizations, and EU MS Embassies. From Uzbekistan, there are participated representatives of Border troops of the State Security Service, State Customs Committee, State Plants Quarantine Inspection under the Cabinet of Ministers, State Committee of Veterinary, and livestock development, and Ministry of foreign affairs.
More than EUR 40 million had been allocated to Central Asian countries within BOMCA for the whole period spanning from 2003 – 2020; out of this amount, EUR 6.6 million was assigned to its 9th implementation phase (2015 - 2020).
The next – 10th BOMCA Phase is to be launched soon. Its budget will be EUR 21.75 million for 2020-2025. Uzbekistan has signed the BOMCA-10financing agreement with the EU. Besides the five countries of Central Asia, the program will also involve Afghanistan.
