TASHKENT, February 8. /“Dunyo” IA/. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan reports that representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Uzbekistan, sent to the Republic of Turkey by the instructions of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to eliminate the consequences of the earthquake, began search and rescue operations in the village of Ovakent, Hatay region, where more than 10 thousand ethnic Uzbeks live, reports “Dunyo” IA correspondent.
The Embassy of Uzbekistan in Ankara and the Consulate in Istanbul are taking measures to move citizens of Uzbekistan from disaster areas to safe places and return them to their homeland. In particular, members of the Uzbekistan national team, who took part in international freestyle wrestling competitions among youth on 3-6 February in Kahramanmarash, with the support of the Turkish side, were temporarily placed in an educational institution in Ankara.
“At the same time, with regret and deep sadness, we inform you that as of 10 AM on February 7, 2023 (Tashkent time), a citizen of Uzbekistan died in the province of Malatya as a result of an earthquake. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan expresses its condolences to the family and relatives of the deceased”, noted in the statement.
Four of our compatriots are missing. Search and rescue operations are underway to establish their location.
At present, a round-the-clock headquarters have been established at the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Ankara to provide assistance to Uzbekistan citizens affected by the earthquake and consider their appeals (Phone number: +90-538-035-85-34).
