TASHKENT, May 11. /“Dunyo” IA/. The quarterfinals of the World Boxing Championships in Tashkent have ended, reports “Dunyo” IA correspondent.
The quarterfinals began with the fight of Khasanboy Dusmatov. He defeated reigning 51kg champion Tomoya Tsuboi of Japan to advance to the semifinals.
Uzbekistan’s Abdumalik Khalokov, who beat the Jordanian athlete Yousef Ishaish, received the right to participate in the semifinals.
Uzbekistan’s Ruslan Abdullayev (63.5 kg) proved stronger than his rival from France, Lounes Hamraoui.
The duel of Saidjamshid Jafarov (71 kg) against Igor Sviridchenkov from Russia ended in victory.
The author of one of the sensational victories of the tournament was Uzbekistan’s young boxer in the heavyweight category Lazizbek Mullojonov (92 kg), who defeated two-time Olympic champion and five-time world champion Julio La Cruz.
Oybek Jurayev (54 kg) also entered the ranks of the semi-finalists, having defeated Spain’s Gabriel Escobar.
Asadhuja Muidinkhujayev (67 kg) defeated two-time Olympic champion Roniel Iglesias from Cuba.
Two representatives of the Uzbekistan national team failed to reach the semifinals: Mujibillo Tursunov (60 kg) lost to Vsevolod Shumkov from Russia, and Shokhjakhon Abdullayev (86 kg) lost to Alfonso Dominguez from Azerbaijan.
The last fight of the day took place between Bakhodir Jalolov and Kamshibek Konkabayev from Kazakhstan. This super-fight lasted three complete rounds, following which Bakhodir Jalolov was declared the winner by unanimous decision of the judges.
The championships will run until May 14.
