RIGA, April 22. /“Dunyo” IA/. Yesterday, the 8th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Industrial, Scientific and Technical Cooperation between Uzbekistan and Latvia was held via videoconference, reports “Dunyo” IA correspondent.
According to the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Latvia, the Co-Chairman from the Uzbek side was the Minister of Agriculture Jamshid Khodjayev, from the Latvian side – the Minister of Agriculture Kaspars Gerhards.
The event was attended by about 100 representatives from among the heads and senior officials of relevant ministries and agencies, social partners, members of the newly created Uzbekistan – Latvia Business Council.
The co-chairs and speakers from both sides noted with satisfaction the continuation of the systemic dialogue and comprehensive cooperation between Uzbekistan and Latvia, despite the challenges of the pandemic. The trade turnover in 2020 amounted to $367.5 million.
The prospects for cooperation in agriculture were noted. Building up inter-university ties was also identified as promising areas of partnership.
The prospects for practical partnership in ICT were emphasized. The Latvian side invited Uzbek specialists to take part in such international events as TechChill and Digital Freedom Festival. Practical measures were discussed for close interaction of IT-Park Uzbekistan, the residents of which are 465 companies, with StartUP Latvia and Latvian IT Cluster.
Following the meeting, an agreement was signed between the State Plant Quarantine Inspection under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Latvia on cooperation in the field of plant quarantine and the Protocol of the 8th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Industrial, Scientific and Technical Cooperation.
