WASHINGTON, August 24. /Dunyo IA/. The United States is preparing a new package of tough sanctions against Iran, which Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has described as the “largest financial attack in history,” reports Dunyo IA correspondent, citing AP.

Washington intends to cut off Iran’s economic and financial channels. Countries and organizations that continue to serve as financial routes for Tehran should expect increased pressure and further economic isolation.

Scott Bessent also warned that if Iran takes military action against U.S. forces or its neighbors in the Gulf, President Donald Trump will respond “quickly and decisively.” The Treasury secretary is expected to present details of the new measures today.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi called the threat of new sanctions a sign of U.S. “desperation.” “The fact that they have moved on from military operations to bring up the same old plans shows that they are desperate,” he said.

He added that Tehran was not afraid of the pressure and that the new sanctions, like previous U.S. actions, would “fail.” Diplomat called on Washington to negotiate on the basis of “justice and honor.”

Tensions remain high around the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has said that vessels violating its rules for passage could face fines, detention or confiscation. Shippers operating routes to and from the Gulf have been advised to check in advance the list of vessels that Tehran considers to be in violation.

A day earlier, “Axios” reported that the United States had secretly established a maritime route off the coast of Oman. According to the report, 15–20 tankers pass through the route each night, carrying about 10 million barrels of oil – roughly half of the pre-war volume.

Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts are continuing. Pakistan’s army chief, Asim Munir, will visit Tehran today. The talks are expected to cover recent developments, including the threat of new U.S. sanctions.

The following day, Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Albusaidi will arrive in Iran to continue discussions on the situation around the Strait of Hormuz.

U.S. President Donald Trump said Iran would like to reach an agreement but was not yet ready for the “right deal.” Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, meanwhile, has called for a diplomatic solution.
