BRUSSELS, December 3. /IA "Dunyo"/. An independent expert on ecology and environmental issues, a historian on Central Asia, Derya Soysal (Belgium), commented for "Dunyo" information agency on the results of the participation of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in the World Summit on Climate Change held in Dubai (UAE):

- In the modern period, the consequences of climate change are becoming more noticeable and serious every year. Forest fires, floods, desertification and droughts affect millions of people around the world. Not to mention, temperatures are reaching record levels and extreme weather events are disrupting communities around the world.
This explains the interest of heads of state and government, international and non-governmental organizations in the World Summit on Climate Change within the framework of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
The environmental problems that Uzbekistan is currently facing are particularly pressing. In this context, the participation of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in the forum is, in my opinion, purposeful.
Among the main challenges the country faces these days are the consequences of the drying up of the Aral Sea, desertification of land, and lack of water resources. All this is a result, including climate change. In this regard, the proposal voiced by the leader of Uzbekistan on the use of scientific achievements in the fight against climate change, as well as the creation of an expo-hub of climate technologies, is of practical importance.
And the most important thing in the speech of the leader of Uzbekistan is that the transition to a "green" economy and achieving carbon neutrality is identified as a priority strategic goal of the New Uzbekistan.
I am of the opinion that the support of these and other important and relevant proposals of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev by the international community will help minimize the consequences of environmental problems of measures in the Central Asian region, as well as overcome the climate crisis on a global scale.
