Tajikistan declares tulip and snowdrop as its national flowers

DUSHANBE, October 21. /Dunyo IA/.  President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon has signed a decree declaring the tulip and siyohgush (snowdrop) the country’s national flowers, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Under the decree, Government is required to take measures to promote these flowers at national and international events.

As reported by the national information agency “Khovar”, tulip and siyohgush hold a special place in Tajik culture, literature and traditions, including those associated with the Navruz holiday. The snowdrop symbolises the arrival of spring, while the tulip embodies the beauty, honour and dignity of the Tajik people.

Initiative is also aimed at preserving cultural heritage, protecting rare plant species, raising environmental awareness among the population and strengthening national identity.
