Derya Soysal: Learning the Uzbek language provides an opportunity for a deeper understanding of Uzbekistan

BRUSSELS, October 20. /Dunyo IA/.  On the occasion of the Uzbek Language Day, Derya Soysal, Editor of the Belgian publication “EU Reflect” and an expert on Central Asia, extended her congratulations to the people of Uzbekistan, sharing her reflections on the significance, unique characteristics and prestige of the Uzbek language:

- Assalamu Alaykum! I sincerely congratulate all the people of Uzbekistan on October 21st – Uzbek Language Day.

Uzbek language is one of the ancient and influential languages with a rich history, invaluable cultural heritage and deep spiritual roots.

This language is the tongue of such great figures as Amir Temur, Alisher Navoi, Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur, Jadid enlighteners and Abdulhamid Cholpon.

Historical roots of the Uzbek language run remarkably deep. The traditions of the Turkic written language, which played a pivotal role in its formation, were widely utilized in state administration, literature and diplomatic relations during the Karakhanid and Temurid eras.

Great thinker Alisher Navoi demonstrated the richness and incomparable potential of the Turkic language through his priceless works. Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur, on the other hand, created “Baburnama” - one of the rare masterpieces of world literature - in this very language.

Today, interest in the Uzbek language is growing steadily beyond the borders of Uzbekistan as well. Notably, Uzbek language is studied and taught at Oxford University, one of the world's most prestigious institutions of higher education.

As a Belgian expert, I am learning the Uzbek language with great interest and enthusiasm. For me, studying this language is not only about mastering a new tongue but also an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Uzbekistan's rich history, unique culture and the values of its people.
