Minsk and Tashkent embark on a new phase of cooperation in Nuclear Energy

MINSK, 3 November. /Dunyo IA/.   Belarusian media have reported an agreement reached during a visit by a delegation of the Agency for Atomic Energy of Uzbekistan (“Uzatom”) to Minsk to establish a joint centre for training mid-level technical personnel to support the construction of Uzbekistan’s national nuclear power plant, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Belarusian state information agency “BelTA” highlighted the implementation of the 2025–2027 “Roadmap” between the energy ministries of the two countries. According to the agency, talks at the Ministry of Energy of Belarus addressed not only personnel training but also the localisation of energy equipment production in Uzbekistan, particularly transformers, in cooperation with the Minsk Electrotechnical Plant. It was emphasized that Belarus’s experience in building and safely operating the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant would provide practical support for the implementation of Uzbekistan’s nuclear energy program.

Belarusian state television channel “CTV” featured an interview with Azim Akhmedkhadjaev, Director of the Agency for Atomic Energy of Uzbekistan (“Uzatom”), in its “Surovy Vzglyad” program. The report noted that the new joint training centre, being established in Jizzakh, would serve as a centre of expertise for training nuclear-sector personnel not only for Uzbekistan but for the entire Central Asian region.

Belarusian publications specializing in the energy and education sectors also covered the initiative. According to their reports, the training centre, which will be based at a branch of Jizzakh Polytechnic Institute, will provide modern training programs for highly qualified electrical installation technicians and welders.

Belarusian media view the agreements on vocational education as part of broader economic and technological cooperation, with nuclear energy emerging as one of the priority areas on the bilateral agenda.
