CAIRO, October 26. /Dunyo IA/. Egyptian newspaper “Al-Youm Al-Sabea” (Youm7) has published a series of articles on the World Summit “Investing in Children’s Well-being: A Path Towards Sustainable and Equitable Development for Future Generations”, held in Samarkand, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

First article notes that the summit brought together representatives from more than 100 countries, including an Egyptian delegation led by Sahar El-Sonbaty, President of the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood. In his address to the participants, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev called for increased investment in children, stronger international cooperation to protect them from violence, exploitation and digital risks, and wider access to healthcare, education and social protection. Publication also highlights the progress of reforms in Uzbekistan, noting that preschool education coverage has risen from 27.7 percent to 78 percent, while child poverty has declined nearly fourfold over the past five years.

A separate article focuses on the proposals put forward by the President of Uzbekistan, including expanding digital literacy programs for children, parents and teachers, developing the Samarkand Platform into a mechanism for regular dialogue, and drawing up an action plan with clear deadlines and designated responsibilities. Another publication quotes First Lady of Uzbekistan Ziroat Mirziyoyeva as noting that more than 400 million children worldwide live in extreme poverty, while nearly one billion are growing up in countries at high risk from the effects of climate change.

According to the publication, Emine Erdoğan called for children’s issues to remain at the forefront of the global agenda and stressed the importance of protecting children in conflict zones, particularly in the Gaza Strip. She also outlined Türkiye’s measures to safeguard children, including in the digital environment.

Publication also reports that World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced that Ziroat Mirziyoyeva had received the WHO Director-General’s Award for 2026 in recognition of her contribution to promoting children’s health and well-being, particularly that of children with cancer.

Three further articles focus on remarks by United Nations representatives. Najat Maalla M’jid, UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative on Violence Against Children, stated that three out of every four children worldwide lack access to any form of social protection. In a video message, UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed stressed that children’s rights cannot wait, while Khalil ur-Rahman, President of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, called for investment in children’s well-being to be translated into practical solutions.

Publication also reports that the two-day summit is expected to conclude with the adoption of the Samarkand Declaration on Investment in Children’s Well-being.
