ISLAMABAD, October 14. /Dunyo IA/. Pakistani online publications “Margalla Tribune” and “Khyber Mail” have published an article entitled “CICA Amid a Crisis of Trust: Uzbekistan’s Role in Strengthening Cooperation in Asia”, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
Publications note that the seventh summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) will take place in Baku on October 15th.
According to the author, the upcoming meeting comes at a time when the ability of states to sustain dialogue and find common ground is particularly important. CICA’s key strength lies in its open and inclusive nature. Organization is neither a military nor a political bloc and does not constrain the foreign policy sovereignty of its participating states.
“These very principles underpin Uzbekistan’s consistent approach to engagement within CICA. Official Tashkent advocates strengthening the forum’s role as a mechanism for implementing confidence-building measures and expanding practical cooperation among Asian countries”, articles emphasis.
As noted by an expert at the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan (ISRS), President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s systematic approach to the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) encompasses several interconnected areas. At its core is the commitment to preserving trust among states, translating it into practical cooperation, and strengthening the capacity of multilateral mechanisms to address shared challenges and counter emerging threats.
Author draws attention to the President’s speeches at the CICA summits in Dushanbe in 2019 and Astana in 2022, which outlined three key approaches: a comprehensive approach to security, a practical focus on multilateral cooperation and joint efforts to address regional challenges.
Taken together, these priorities define the underlying logic of Uzbekistan’s policy within CICA: preserving trust among states, strengthening it through practical engagement, and using multilateral mechanisms to address pressing challenges facing the Asian region.
In conclusion, the author emphasizes that Uzbekistan’s contribution to CICA lies in the consistent implementation of initiatives aimed at building trust and shaping a secure and prosperous future for the region.
