BERLIN, October 9. /Dunyo IA/. German magazine “NewsMark” has published an article on the development of Uzbekistan’s transport and logistics sector and the country’s role in international transport corridors linking Europe and Asia, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
Article’s author, Christian Grosse, examines large-scale reforms in the transport sector, the development of railway infrastructure and Uzbekistan’s participation in “InnoTrans 2026” in Berlin.
Publication notes that Uzbekistan Railways presented a dedicated national exhibition for the first time, having previously participated mainly as part of delegations. At the exhibition, which brought together more than 3,000 companies from 59 countries, Uzbek side showcased domestically produced freight wagons, sought new logistics partners and expanded technological cooperation with Western European companies.
According to the article, “Uzbekistan Railways” transported 106.4 million tonnes of freight last year, while domestic and transit freight traffic is projected to increase by more than 20% this year. In parallel, the country is modernising its railway infrastructure and developing international transport routes.
“NewsMark” also paid particular attention to the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway, a 523-kilometre project with an estimated cost of $4.7 billion. The new route is expected to reduce freight delivery times from China to Europe by approximately 7–10 days.
Publication also highlighted the development of the Middle Corridor across the Caspian Sea, as well as logistics routes through Azerbaijan, Georgia and Türkiye, including connections to Poland and Lithuania.
Modernisation of Uzbekistan’s domestic railway network was also examined. Following the electrification of the Bukhara–Urganch–Khiva section, the share of electrified railways exceeded 51%, with plans to raise this figure to 65% by 2030.
During “InnoTrans 2026”, representatives of Uzbekistan Railways held talks with Turkish company TCDD Taşımacılık on improving freight transport along the Türkiye–Azerbaijan–Georgia–Uzbekistan route. They also established contacts with Poland’s PKP and representatives of European Union institutions.
Private-sector participation was also identified as one of the indicators of the sector’s development. “Mikroelektronika Plyus” presented electronic devices, control systems and software solutions for railway transport.
According to “NewsMark”, development of transport infrastructure is in line with the objectives of the “Uzbekistan–2030” Strategy, which envisages investment of approximately $9.1 billion in transport and logistics by 2030. This is expected to double the volume of transport services and increase logistics services exports to $5.7 billion annually.
In conclusion, author described Uzbekistan’s first independent participation in “InnoTrans 2026” as a symbol of a new stage in the development of the country’s railway sector, highlighting the country’s growing role in global logistics chains between China and Europe.
