IRKUTSK, October 28. /Dunyo IA/.  Consul General of Uzbekistan in Novosibirsk Aslam Akbarov visited Correctional Colony No. 19 in Irkutsk, where he met with compatriots serving sentences, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

During individual conversations, he listened to the grievances, requests, and wishes of the compatriots, recorded information on the circumstances of the offenses they committed and answered their questions.

According to the Consulate General, there are 61 citizens of Uzbekistan in the institution, convicted under various articles of the Criminal Code of Russia.

During the visit, measures were taken to resolve a number of issues. In particular, the issue of providing urgent medical assistance to two citizens suffering from heart and kidney diseases was resolved on the spot.

Several convicts also received additional clarifications and recommendations in connection with their interest in military service under contract.

Diplomats of Uzbekistan assured the compatriots that the Consulate General would continue to protect their rights and interests. The diplomatic mission stands ready to provide them with consular and legal assistance, including legal support and facilitation in securing defence counsel services.
