ROME, July 31. /Dunyo IA/. Leading Italian news agency “ANSA” published an article titled “Tashkent Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site thanks to its modernist architecture”, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Article, which was published by numerous media outlets, notes that ten landmark buildings in the capital of Uzbekistan were inscribed on the World Heritage List for their Outstanding Universal Value. The relevant decision was adopted by the World Heritage Committee during its 48th session, held in the city of Busan.

It is emphasized that the List includes ten buildings and architectural complexes constructed from the 1960s to the early 1990s. They reflect the process of reconstruction and urban transformation of Tashkent following the devastating earthquake of 1966.

“The inscription on the List is part of a broader state policy aimed at preserving and promoting cultural heritage pursued by Uzbek institutions, which consider the protection of architectural heritage as one of the strategic factors in the country’s development”, publication writes.

“ANSA” agency also notes that President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has repeatedly emphasized the importance of culture and historical-artistic heritage as key factors in strengthening national identity and developing international dialogue.

The work on preparing the nomination dossier and preserving the sites, launched in 2021, was carried out by the Uzbekistan Art and Culture Development Foundation in cooperation with the Polytechnic University of Milan, the GRACE architectural bureau, and an international group of architects, historians, and cultural heritage conservation specialists.

In conclusion, “ANSA” notes that this is the first national nomination of Uzbekistan in the past 25 years to have been successfully inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, representing significant international recognition of the country’s efforts to preserve architectural heritage.
