DUSHANBE, July 30. /Dunyo IA/. Tajik Information Agency “Avesta” has published an article titled “Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan: A New Stage and Prospects for Environmental Cooperation”, dedicated to the development of bilateral cooperation in the field of ecology, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Publication notes that the legal framework for cooperation was established by the 1996 Agreement, while interaction between the two countries significantly intensified from 2022 to 2025. During this period, the countries jointly participated in meetings of the Global Snow Leopard and Ecosystem Protection Program (GSLEP), regional workshops on combating illegal wildlife trade and in 2024 signed a memorandum on grant places at “Green University”.

“Avesta” also recalls the 2019 and 2021 memorandums on the management of the “Western Tien-Shan” UNESCO transboundary site and the protection of the snow leopard, as well as cooperation within the framework of the CIS, SCO, and with organizations such as GIZ and IUCN.

Among the tasks for the future, the publication notes the inclusion of Kyrgyzstan into the Uzbek–Kazakh working group on the water quality of the SyrDarya basin and the promotion of the regional Environmental Performance Review supported by the UNECE. The author concludes that the ecological partnership between the two countries is elevating to a strategic level and remains vital for the sustainability of the entire region.
