“Seoul City”: Uzbekistan strengthens its position as a reliable and promising partner for international investors

SEOUL, August 4. /Dunyo IA/. Popular South Korean publication “Seoul City” has published an article titled “G20 and Uzbekistan: Investments, Industry and Trade in a New Economic Reality”, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Publication notes that the global economy is entering a new stage of development. The reformatting of global supply chains, the rapid development of the digital economy, the transition to “green” energy, the intensification of competition for investments, and the improvement of international trade rules pose new challenges for states. In this context, the issues discussed within the framework of the G20 are also of great importance for Uzbekistan.

Reforms being carried out in the country, aimed at modernizing the economy, developing high-tech industries, expanding investment inflows, and building export capacity, fully align with the priority areas of the G20 agenda.

In recent years, improving the investment climate has become one of the key areas of Uzbekistan's state policy. As President Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted, in 2025, country's economy grew by 7.7 percent and the volume of attracted foreign investments reached $43 billion. In 2026, the volume of gross domestic product is expected to exceed $180 billion. These indicators demonstrate not only stable economic growth but also that Uzbekistan is strengthening its position as a reliable and promising partner for international investors.

Article emphasizes that institutional reforms play a crucial role in attracting investment, with initiatives such as the Tashkent International Financial Centre and the introduction of English law significantly boosting attractiveness. Key factors also include the establishment of an independent commercial court, the free movement of capital and the development of modern financial services.

Article notes that in the industrial sector, Uzbekistan is also oriented toward transitioning to a high-value-added economy. In the coming years, it is planned to increase the volume of value added in industry from $36.5 billion to at least $60 billion and the output of high-tech industries by 2.5 times. In 2026, the implementation of 782 new industrial and infrastructure projects with a total value of $52 billion is scheduled. This opens up new opportunities for the development of metallurgy, the chemical industry, the electrical engineering sector, mechanical engineering, pharmaceuticals, textile industry, agro-industrial complex and digital infrastructure.

Positive dynamics are also observed in foreign trade. In January–May 2026, the foreign trade turnover of Uzbekistan reached $32.8 billion. At the same time, it is particularly noteworthy that the export of goods, excluding gold, increased by nearly 30 percent. This testifies to the growing share of processed industrial products, textile goods, food products and services in the structure of national exports.

At the same time, the development of transportation corridors, the reduction of logistical costs, and the implementation of digital transit systems remain critical factors for enhancing the competitiveness of Uzbek exports.

Publication also notes that the process of Uzbekistan's accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) is a logical continuation of the ongoing economic reforms. WTO membership will help increase the transparency of international trade rules, strengthen investor confidence, expand access for domestic exporters to new foreign markets and further develop a competitive environment

In general, the issues of investment, industrial development, trade, the digital economy, and sustainable development considered within the framework of the G20 are completely in line with the long-term development strategy of Uzbekistan.

Transformation of the country into a strategic transport and investment hub of Central Asia, the implementation of large-scale economic reforms, and the expansion of international cooperation will continue to contribute to strengthening Uzbekistan's position as a competitive and reliable partner in the context of the new global economic reality.
