TASHKENT, June 19. /Dunyo IA/. On the occasion of the first match of the Uzbekistan national football team at the FIFA World Cup 2026, collective screenings and community gatherings of compatriots were organized in New York, Astana, and Beijing, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

In New York, a special event was hosted by the Permanent Mission of Uzbekistan to the United Nations, bringing together senior representatives of the UN Secretariat, heads of diplomatic missions of member states, members of the diplomatic corps, and international UN staff. Participants jointly watched the Uzbekistan national team’s match and highlighted the historic significance of its participation in the World Cup.

Representatives of Central Asian countries expressed their support for the Uzbek team, noting that its success is a source of pride for the entire region. Special attention during the event was given to the role of sport as an important tool for strengthening friendship, mutual understanding, and cooperation among peoples.

In Astana, an event was held with the participation of compatriots, representatives of Uzbek national cultural centers, entrepreneurs, students, and Kazakh football fans. A collective viewing of the match between Uzbekistan and Colombia was organized for attendees.

In Beijing, the Embassy of Uzbekistan hosted a gathering of compatriots living and temporarily residing in China. The event was attended by students of Chinese universities, members of the Uzbek diaspora, and representatives of foreign diplomatic missions.

During the meeting, participants were briefed on ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan, measures supporting youth, and expanding opportunities in education, employment, and sports. It was emphasized that the achievements of Uzbek athletes on the international stage are the result of consistent state policy aimed at developing the younger generation.

Following the briefing, participants watched the Uzbekistan–Colombia match on a large LED screen installed at the embassy. Compatriots, dressed in special T-shirts featuring national team symbols, actively supported the Uzbek players throughout the game.

The events once again demonstrated strong interest in the historic participation of Uzbekistan’s national team in the World Cup and served as an important platform for uniting compatriots abroad around the national team.
