Central Asian Cooperation in Pediatric Oncology to save more lives

SAMARKAND, October 22. /Dunyo IA/.  Strengthening regional cooperation, early detection, and the implementation of modern treatment methods will help increase the effectiveness of the fight against childhood oncological diseases in Central Asian countries, Dr. Vitaly Smelov, a specialist at the WHO Regional Office for Europe, stated in an interview with a Dunyo IA correspondent.

According to him, Central Asian countries face similar challenges in the field of pediatric oncology. The growth of the child population may lead to an increase in the absolute number of detected cases, which will require additional efforts from healthcare systems.

Expert emphasized that many oncological diseases in children are difficult to prevent; therefore, timely detection and accurate diagnosis are of crucial importance. This requires modern medical equipment, qualified specialists and effective diagnostic systems.

It is equally important to initiate treatment in a timely manner, ensure access to modern medicines, and apply unified clinical protocols.

Dr. Vitaly Smelov also noted the significance of the “TIKIka” project, implemented within the framework of the WHO Regional Office for Europe, which aims to reduce the time between diagnosis and the initiation of treatment. In his view, the dissemination of such practices in the countries of the region will expand the capacity for the timely provision of medical care to children.

In conclusion, the expert emphasized that the exchange of experience between countries, the implementation of effective medical approaches, and coordinated actions at the regional level are of key importance for improving the quality of treatment and saving children's lives.
