Electric vehicle imports to Uzbekistan increased 2.6-fold in the first half of the year

TASHKENT, August 14. /Dunyo IA/. In January–June 2026, Uzbekistan imported 37,874 electric vehicles worth a total of USD 447.7 million, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Compared with the corresponding period of 2025, the volume of electric vehicle imports increased by 23,500 vehicles, or 2.6-fold.

According to the National Statistics Committee, the largest share of imports came from China, which supplied 37,560 electric vehicles, accounting for approximately 99 percent of total imports during the six-month period.

Electric vehicles were also imported from Hong Kong (SAR of China) - 141 vehicles, the Republic of Korea - 80, Germany - 42, and the United States - 21. A further 30 electric vehicles were imported from other countries.

According to experts, such a significant increase in imports indicates an ongoing shift in the structure of demand in Uzbekistan’s automotive market. Further market dynamics will depend not only on import volumes, but also on the development of domestic production, charging infrastructure, the availability of after-sales services and the formation of a secondary market for electric vehicles.

Statistics for the first half of 2026 indicate an acceleration in the electrification of Uzbekistan’s automotive market, with China maintaining its position as the country’s key external supplier of electric vehicles.

It should be recalled that in June 2024, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the newly commissioned BYD Uzbekistan Factory in Jizzakh Region, with an annual production capacity of 50,000 electric vehicles.

This marks a new stage in the development of Uzbekistan’s automotive industry and represents a major historic milestone. The plant commenced operations in January 2026 during the visit of the Head of State to China. This is the first stage of a USD 160 million project, with the capacity to produce 50,000 electric vehicles annually.
