Experience of Uzbekistan in reforming legislation and strengthening parliamentary oversight over state policy implementation presented at 153rd IPU Assembly

General debates dedicated to enhancing effective governance and empowering communities through inclusivity, trust, and opportunities for all took place within the framework of the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) held in Tanzania, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
According to the upper house of parliament, central focus of the discussions was on strengthening trust in state institutions, expanding citizen participation in decision-making processes, ensuring equal opportunities and strengthening the role of parliaments in achieving concrete and positive changes in the lives of the population.
Head of the parliamentary delegation of Uzbekistan, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbaeva, in her speech briefly informed about the work being carried out in our country on implementing the principles of a social state, reducing poverty and strengthening the legal foundations of social policy, and presented Uzbekistan’s experience in improving legislation and strengthening parliamentary oversight over the implementation of state policy.
It was noted that the initiatives put forward by Uzbekistan are aimed at further aligning the legislative and oversight functions of parliaments with the needs of the population. In particular, proposals were made to more fully consider public opinion and local representative bodies when drafting laws, to evaluate state programs and budgets from the standpoint of equal opportunities and to direct the focus of parliamentary oversight toward the practical results of adopted decisions in the lives of the population.
During the debates, special attention was paid to the resolution “On strengthening the role of parliaments in social development”, adopted by the UN General Assembly at the initiative of Uzbekistan. It was noted that this document is aimed at increasing the responsibility of parliaments for social development, ensuring equal opportunities and human well-being and the importance of further intensifying inter-parliamentary cooperation in its implementation was emphasized.
