Uzbekistan and Qatar agree to strengthen Parliamentary Dialogue and Exchange of Experience

DOHA, November 6. /Dunyo IA/.  Representatives of the parliaments of Uzbekistan and Qatar held an online meeting to discuss preparations for the visit of a Qatari delegation to Uzbekistan and new directions for inter-parliamentary cooperation, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

Meeting was facilitated by the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Doha. It was attended by Ahmad Al-Hitmi, Chairman of the “Qatar-Asia” Parliamentary Friendship Group and Member of the Shura Council (Majlis ash-Shura), as well as representatives of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan: Abdulkhakim Eshmuratov, Chairman of the Committee on Judicial, Legal, and Anti-Corruption Issues of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Nodir Jumaev, Chairman of the Legislative Chamber Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Sports, and Youth Issues.

One of the key topics was the organization of the official visit of the Qatari parliamentary delegation to Uzbekistan. The sides also considered opportunities for exchanging experience in parliamentary activities and providing mutual support at international parliamentary platforms.

Particular attention was paid by the participants to the development of a regular inter-parliamentary dialogue. Uzbek side proposed holding meetings between the representatives of the parliaments of the two countries at least once a year, in November, in either online or offline format. Qatari parliamentarians supported this initiative.

Qatari side, for its part, advocated for expanding cooperation in the field of lawmaking, including the exchange of experience in drafting legislation. Furthermore, it was suggested to intensify cooperation in the cultural-humanitarian sphere, tourism, sports, science and education.

Participants of the meeting emphasized that the close and trust-based relations between Uzbekistan and Qatar, as well as the constructive dialogue at the highest level, create additional opportunities for the development of parliamentary diplomacy. Significance of inter-parliamentary cooperation within the framework of the open and pragmatic foreign policy of Uzbekistan was also noted.
