Spring festival dedicated to Uzbek culture held in South Korea

SEOUL, April 29. /Dunyo IA/. A spring festival dedicated to Uzbek culture was held in one of the largest parks in the South Korean capital, aimed at preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Uzbek people, promoting it internationally, and fostering a sense of pride among the youth in the symbols of national identity, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

The event, attended by around one hundred compatriots, was organized with the initiative and support of the South Korean branch of the World Association of Youth of Uzbekistan.

Festival participants took part in traditional games and enjoyed dishes of Uzbek national cuisine. The celebration was made even more colorful by traditional clothing — young men wore tubeteikas, and young women donned vibrant dresses made of atlas and adras fabrics.

The lively celebration attracted attention from local residents, who joined the festivities, asked questions about Uzbekistan's culture, art, and history, and expressed admiration for the traditional costumes and the friendly atmosphere.

The festival held special significance for Uzbek families who have been living in South Korea for many years. Many parents noted that such gatherings serve as an important cultural bridge for their children growing up in a foreign linguistic and cultural environment, helping them connect with their national identity.

They emphasized that the opportunity to not only learn about the rich culture and values of Uzbekistan but also to experience them firsthand—by wearing traditional outfits and participating in folk games—is an invaluable experience.

Elena Chuyanova, representative of the World Association of Youth of Uzbekistan in South Korea, noted that such events serve not only as leisure activities but also make a unique contribution to preserving national identity, fostering pride in one’s culture, and strengthening ties among the Uzbek diaspora.

At the conclusion of the festival, sponsors presented gifts, books in Uzbek by local and international authors to the most active participants and winners of the traditional games.
