NEW DELHI, May 29. /Dunyo IA/. Uzbekistan and India have signed a protocol on the conclusion of negotiations on market access within the framework of Uzbekistan’s accession process to the World Trade Organization (WTO), reports Dunyo IA correspondent.
The announcement was made by Azizbek Urunov, Special Representative of the President of Uzbekistan on WTO Issues and Chief Negotiator, on his LinkedIn page.
According to him, agreements with the Indian side on this issue had been reached back in 2024. However, additional efforts were required to finalize the technical review and agree on the text of the protocol with the Indian side. At the same time, India demonstrated a constructive approach on substantive market access issues.
Azizbek Urunov expressed gratitude to India for supporting Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO and separately highlighted the contribution of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in India and the Indian diplomatic mission in Uzbekistan.
According to the chief negotiator, the Uzbek side will promptly submit one original copy of the protocol to the WTO Secretariat for consolidation so that the document can be included in the overall package of materials related to Uzbekistan’s accession to the organization.
Uzbekistan plans to finalize its full-fledged membership in the WTO later this year.
