KUALA LUMPUR, October 26. /Dunyo IA/. A delegation of Uzbek government officials and university representatives has visited Malaysia to explore cooperation in semiconductors and microelectronics, engineering education and joint academic projects, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

In Selangor, the delegation visited “IC Design Park 1”, a complex specializing in integrated circuit design, and held talks with leading companies on training Uzbek microelectronics engineers.

Yong Kai Ping, CEO of the Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (SIDEC), said geopolitical and geoeconomic changes were prompting countries to place greater emphasis on semiconductor design and manufacturing. He recommended that Uzbekistan establish specialized chip-design companies and expand training for qualified professionals.

During the discussions, the Academy of Semiconductor Malaysia (ASEM) also expressed readiness to organize specialized courses for Uzbek professionals combining theoretical instruction with practical training.

In Kuala Lumpur, the delegation visited the TPM technology park and toured the laboratories of “MIMOS Berhad.” The facilities focus on semiconductor wafer production, prototyping, chip testing, electronic component analysis and the detection of defects in chips and circuit boards.

Ramesh Kumar, vice president of MIMOS Berhad, said the company was ready to provide training, retraining and professional development programmes for engineers and researchers serving Uzbekistan’s high-tech industries through MIMOS Academy in Kedah state.

A key outcome of the visit was the signing of cooperation agreements during the Selangor AI and Semiconductor Summit. Tashkent University of Technology signed agreements with ASEM and “GreatAsic Technology”, while the state-run Cyber University concluded agreements with Asia e University (AeU) and Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU).

The agreements aim to train specialists in artificial intelligence, develop practical integrated circuit design skills and strengthen cooperation between universities and technology companies.

It is worth noting that integrated circuit design is one of the most advanced fields of microelectronics, enabling millions or even billions of transistors to be placed on a single semiconductor chip. Developing the industry requires skilled engineers, modern research infrastructure and close cooperation between academia and industry.
