Featuring 48 national teams for the first time in history, the tournament was memorable not only for its new format but also for its intense competition, historic records, and outstanding individual performances.

In the tournament final, the Spanish national team defeated the reigning world champion, Argentina, 1–0 in extra time, capturing the prestigious world champion title for the second time in its history.

Regulation time of the decisive match, held at the “MetLife” Stadium, ended in a goalless draw. The fate of the match was determined in extra time by Ferran Torres, whose solitary goal in the 106^th minute secured a historic victory for Spain. Consequently, the Spanish side clinched the world championship title for the second time since 2010, while Argentina suffered its fourth defeat in its seventh World Cup final appearance.

Following the tournament, representatives of the Spanish national team claimed nearly all major individual honours. Team captain Rodri was named the best player of the competition, having contributed significantly to Spain's championship triumph through his consistent, high-level performance throughout the tournament. With this success, Rodri joined an elite group of footballers who have won the World Cup, UEFA Champions League and the Ballon d'Or.

The tournament's Best Goalkeeper award was also secured by a Spanish representative, Unai Simón. The experienced goalkeeper kept a clean sheet in 7 out of 8 matches, conceding only a single goal throughout the competition. He established new FIFA World Cup records for the most clean sheets in a single tournament and for the longest consecutive duration without conceding a goal.

Best Young Player award was presented to another talented Spanish asset, 19-year-old Pau Cubarsí. Although Lamine Yamal was widely considered the primary contender for this accolade prior to the tournament, the judges' final selection ultimately favoured Cubarsí.

Meanwhile, the French national team forward, Kylian Mbappé, finished as the tournament's top scorer. By netting 10 goals over the course of the World Cup, he brought his career total to 22 goals in FIFA World Cup history, further consolidating his position as the competition's all-time leading goal scorer.

The third-place playoff also presented football fans with a spectacular goal-scoring showcase. England defeated France 6-4 to claim the bronze medals. Football enthusiasts and experts alike will now turn their attention to the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

For the first time in history, the next tournament will be staged across three continents and six nations. Spain, Portugal, and Morocco will serve as the primary host countries. Concurrently, in commemoration of the World Cup's centenary, three opening matches will be hosted by Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay.
