AICHI-NAGOYA, September 26. /Dunyo IA/. Uzbekistan’s delegation has won 34 medals at the 20^th Summer Asian Games in Japan, moving into fourth place in the overall medal standings, reports Dunyo IA correspondent.

The team has collected eight gold, 17 silver and nine bronze medals, with China, Japan and South Korea leading the standings.

In athletics, Sukhrob Khojayev won gold in the hammer throw with a result of 74.38 meters.

Uzbekistan also secured several medals in canoeing and kayaking. Shahriyor Makhkamov won gold in the men’s K-1 500-meter event, while Arina Tanatmisheva and the pair of Shokhsanam Sherzodova and Nilufar Zakirova took silver in their respective events.

In artistic gymnastics, Rasuljon Abdurakhimov won bronze on the parallel bars with a score of 14.433 points.

Uzbekistan’s U23 Olympic football team also advanced to the semifinals after defeating Saudi Arabia 3-0 in the quarterfinals. Dilshod Murtazoyev, Azizbek Tulkinbekov and Firdavs Abdurakhmonov scored for Uzbekistan.

Uzbekistan will face the winner of the Japan-North Korea quarterfinal in the semifinal on September 30.

Uzbek athletes will continue competing for medals on September 26 in athletics, canoeing and kayaking, weightlifting, artistic swimming and boxing.

Arina Tanatmisheva will compete in the 500-meter final, while Vladlen Denisov and Nilufar Zakirova will vie for a medal in the mixed event.

In boxing, Sitora Turdibekova and Samandar Olimov will take to the ring, while Adhamjon Ergashov and Diyorbek Ruzmetov will compete in weightlifting finals.

Uzbekistan’s men’s ice hockey team will also face China, while the women’s handball team will play Kazakhstan.
