Senate Chair Holds Meetings with IPU Leadership in Istanbul

Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, Tanzila Narbaeva, held meetings with President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Tulia Ackson, and IPU Secretary General Martin Chungong on the sideliners of the 152nd IPU Assembly, "Dunyo" IA’s correspondent reports.
According to the upper chamber of parliament, the meetings highlighted the key role of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation, promoting democratic values, and supporting sustainable development. It was emphasized that Uzbekistan’s cooperation with the IPU has been developing dynamically and has reached a qualitatively new level. The 150th Assembly held in Tashkent was highly commended.
Given the conclusion of the current IPU leadership’s mandate this year, the sides reviewed the outcomes of their cooperation and discussed the results achieved in key areas of parliamentary engagement over recent years.
The interlocutors noted that, thanks to ongoing reforms and initiatives, the Parliament of Uzbekistan has significantly strengthened its authority and international visibility.
According to the IPU leadership, international parliamentary events hosted by Uzbekistan have become exemplary and have set high organizational standards, particularly the 150th IPU Assembly in Tashkent.
Special attention was paid to preparations for the 12th Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians, scheduled to take place on 4–6 September this year in Samarkand. Confidence was expressed that the forum will be held at a high level with the full support of the IPU.
Following the talks, the sides reaffirmed their mutual interest in further expanding cooperation and implementing joint initiatives to strengthen parliamentary diplomacy.
